Single Touch Payroll is not optional because your team is small. Run a pay, hand out payslips, and the report the ATO expects goes with it — for a family business paying a spouse, a sole trader with a couple of casuals, a company paying its director.

Set up each person's regular pay once. Every run starts from that and you change what needs changing. PAYG withholding comes from the ATO's tax tables for the year; super guarantee is worked out on the earnings it applies to.
A PDF per person, per run, with the year-to-date figures on it — the way a payslip is supposed to look.
You make the declaration yourself, in your own name, and the pay event goes to the ATO. You see what they said back — accepted, or which employee's record they had a problem with and why.
Finalise the year and your employees' income statements become tax ready, so they can lodge. If something needs correcting afterwards, it can be.
A tax file number is encrypted before it is stored, with a key held in Sydney, and can only be decrypted inside our servers in that same region. It is never written into anything the app can read, never written to a log, never put into an error message.
Your phone keeps the last three digits so you can tell one record from another. The only place the full number is ever decrypted is inside the code that builds your report for the ATO — and it goes from there into that report and nowhere else.
No part of the payroll calculation, the classification of a payment, or the lodgment to the ATO uses artificial intelligence. Payroll data, employee records and tax file numbers are never sent to an AI service, by us or on our behalf.
That is a written commitment we have given the ATO as a registered Digital Service Provider. It is also a constraint in how the software is built, not a policy somebody remembers to apply.
Salary and wages, and closely held payees — the family members and directors an employer reports differently. There is no cap on how many people you pay. It is built and tested around small teams, so if you are paying dozens you will be happier with something made for that, but nothing in the app stops you at a particular number.
What it does stop you at is the kinds of pay it cannot report correctly. Working holiday makers, seasonal worker programme participants, foreign employment income, or more than one ABN branch: the app says so rather than lodging something wrong.
Reports go to the ATO through OZEDI, registered with the ATO for exactly this. You tell the ATO once, in Access Manager, that OZEDI sends your reports — the app gives you the Software ID and walks you through it.
Nothing is lodged without your declaration, and nothing is lodged twice. If the app cannot establish whether a report reached the ATO, it stops and tells you — it does not send it again on a guess.
me more cool Pty Ltd is registered with the ATO as a Digital Service Provider for Single Touch Payroll and operates under the ATO's Operational Security Framework. The app is being tested against the ATO's test environment and is not yet available for live reporting. This page will say so when that changes.
AU Payroll applies the rules the ATO publishes to the figures you enter. It is not tax advice, it cannot tell you whether what you entered is right, and you remain responsible for what you report. If you are unsure, talk to a registered tax or BAS agent.
